Welcome community of Glenwood Street.
We are a group of citizens, just like you, who feel that Glenwood Street needs to be safe for all users but particularly pedestrians, bikers and kids who use it every day. Reduced speeds and designated pedestrian/biker lanes would go a long way. Some suggestions to improve safety are listed below. Please add your suggestions when you sign the petition.
Suggested changes to Glenwood Street:
Reduce speed limit to 30 miles per hour to match both Snively and lower Glenwood.(The time difference between a speed of 45 mph and 30 mph from stop sign to stop sign between 45th and Snively is only 30 seconds!)
Designated and marked pedestrian/cycling lanes.
Designate the uphill slow moving vehicle lane and prohibit passing in this lane.
Better signage all around for speed and safety.
Traffic lights at the Snively intersection.
Add curb, gutter and sidewalks.
Add a Pedestrian Crossing at the top of the hill where Glenwood and Skyline connect at Hawks Ridge and Northland Estates..
Add a longer right turn lane at the Snively/Jean Duluth intersection.
Add lighted Your Speed indicators going both ways.
This petition will be presented to the City of Duluth and MNDOT as an urgent calling of increased safety for pedestrians, bikers, and motorists traveling this unique stretch of road from the Snively intersection to 60th Ave E in Lakeside/Lester Park. With enough signatures we can show that safety on and along Glenwood Street is a concern and it needs to be improved.
